"Playing Indian"
Why do white Americans "play Indian" by claiming Indian ancestry? Vine Deloria Jr. in his monumental work "Custer Died For Your Sins" claimed it was because they needed to feel part of the frontier and not feel guilty for the horrible treatment of Native Americans.
